ELORA GRANADOS GARNERS CONFERENCE HONOR
Regis College freshman Elora Granados (Chillicothe, Texas) was named to the 2011 New England Collegiate Conference’s All-Conference Honorable Mention Team, it was announced on Monday afternoon. Granados helped lead the Pride to a 5-9 mark this season as well as a 5-5 record in league play and its first bid into the NECC postseason as the number three seed. NECC All-Conference selections were determined by a vote of the conference coaches.
WESTON, Mass. – Regis College freshman Elora Granados (Chillicothe, Texas) was named to the 2011 New England Collegiate Conference's All-Conference Honorable Mention Team, it was announced on Monday afternoon. Granados helped lead the Pride to a 5-9 mark this season as well as a 5-5 record in league play and its first bid into the NECC postseason as the number three seed. NECC All-Conference selections were determined by a vote of the conference coaches.
Granados played her first match of the season on September 19th against Eastern Nazarene, winning at the number one singles spot, and went on to win five of her first six singles matches of the year. The freshman went 5-4 in singles play this season in the NECC, all at the top singles spot. In doubles play, Granados teamed mostly with Paige Pasley (Dorchester, Mass.) and the duo posted a 3-3 mark at number one doubles in conference matches.
Becker senior Megan Nessen was chosen as the New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Year in a vote by the conference coaches. Nessen was also honored as a first team selection as both a singles and doubles player. Becker first-year Nicole Connolly earned conference Rookie of the Year honors. Becker's David Bostick was named NECC Coach of the Year after leading his squad to an unbeaten regular season and the NECC tournament title. Lesley received the Team Sportsmanship Award.
The women's tennis team wrapped up its fall season in the NECC Semifinals, but returns to action in the spring of 2012 when the Pride takes on Rhode Island College on March 30th in a 4:00 p.m. match in Providence, R.I.
