PRIDE EARNS NECC TEAM SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD
Regis College earned the New England Collegiate Conference’s 2012 Team Sportsmanship for men’s volleyball, it was announced on Monday afternoon. The Pride finished their first season in the NECC with a 1-18 overall record and 0-12 year in league play.
WESTON, Mass. – Regis College earned the New England Collegiate Conference's 2012 Team Sportsmanship for men's volleyball, it was announced on Monday afternoon. The Pride finished their first season in the NECC with a 1-18 overall record and 0-12 year in league play.
This year, the Pride were led by senior Andrew Carroll (Natick, Mass.), who posted a team-best 105 kills to go along with 54 assists, and a team-leading 97 digs. Freshman David Amicangioli (Belmont, Mass.) took over the setting duties mid-way through the season and posted 203 assists and notched 37 kills to go with 77 digs. Drew Wilder (Brockton, Mass.) finished the year second on the team in kills with 69, while Brandon Yarrell-Bacote (Bronx, N.Y.) led the team with 13 total blocks in 2012.
Other NECC awards announced on Monday included Endicott's Jeremy Siden being named the Player of the Year, Southern Vermont's Nick Haggerty being named the Defensive Player of the Year with his teammate Joseph Dighton took home the conference's Rookie of the Year.
The All-Conference Teams were also announced. NECC all-conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches. Additional players honored are due to ties in the voting process.
