WESTON, Mass. - Hunter Cawley (Wimberley, Texas) will be attending Regis College next fall as a member of the class 0f 2016 and Head Coach John Ciarleglio is pleased to welcome Hunter to the men's tennis team. Cawley will strengthen the top of the men's roster, both in doubles and singles.
In 2010-2011, Hunter was ranked in the top 150 players in the USTA Texas Section. Joining sophomore, Mike Beluch (Natick, Mass.), the duo will make up Regis No. 1 doubles team in 2012-2013 and play first and second singles as well. Coach C. would not speculate on who will play #1 or who will play #2. "We'll let the tennis court make that decision," said Ciarleglio.
Hunter began playing tennis in the 5th grade, taking advantage of a strong community involvement in tennis. He started playing tournaments in the 6th grade, while continuing to play baseball, football and golf. As a high school freshman, Cawley decided to focus his athletic efforts on tennis, working with his coach John Wolf, who had his own tennis court across the street from the high school. Hunter liked the personal aspect of tennis – having to depend on oneself, but also the benefits of being part of a team in high school and college tennis.
So why Regis? Cawley attended a tennis recruit overnight last December and really liked Regis, the small size, welcoming students and the players on the men's and women's tennis teams. Being near Boston, with all that's available to Regis students is also a big plus. Hunter will be a business major at Regis and still enjoys playing golf, while enjoying Texas country music and rap.
