Weston, Mass.-Opening with a 10-1 run over Regis College, the Colonels of Curry College would defeat its Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent 81-70 in men's basketball Saturday evening.
Curry College (4-10, 1-2 TCCC) would not let the Pride within five points of its lead during the game. The Colonels maintained control of the contest for two halves, and would lead the Pride by at most 16 points.
Freshman Gerald Cohen (Roxbury, Mass.) would score 17 points and grab 11 rebounds. Joining Cohen in double-double action would be freshman Daniel Singh (Lawrence, Mass.) adding 16 points, 17 rebounds and six blocks for the Colonels.
Singh would foul out in the second half having played 31 minutes. He was perfect from the line making 6-of-6, and shot better than 50 percent from the field (5-of-9).
Freshman Kyle Gerry (Brockton, Mass.) scored a game high 22 points, coming close to the teams third double-double grabbing nine rebounds.
Regis College was led by Derrick Neal (Boston, Mass.) with 16 points. Three other Pride players would score in double digits with Jesse Vega (Pawtucket, RI) scoring 15 points, Josh Irvin (New Britain, CT) and Jimmy Irmiter (Chicago, IL) adding 13 and 11 points respectively.
Curry refused to play the same tempo game as Regis College, forcing the ball to the lane when it could. As well, the Colonels kept Regis from having any second chance attempts, claiming 46 total rebounds to the Pride's 37.
