FIVE STUDENT-ATHLETES HONORED WITH CRIMSON AND GOLD TASSEL
Weston, Mass.Five Regis College student-athletes were honored by receiving the Crimson and Gold Tassel for extraordinary service to the college Friday. Seniors Amanda Hoyt (Madison, NH), Maria Mendes (Brockton, Mass.), Maria Pino (Revere, Mass.), Shannon Tonelli (Easthampton, Mass.), and Jesse Vega (Pawtucket, RI). The Crimson and Gold Tassel Selection Committee released its winners prior to the colleges commencement ceremony Saturday, May 15.
Weston, Mass.—Five Regis College student-athletes were honored by receiving the Crimson and Gold Tassel for extraordinary service to the college Friday. Seniors Amanda Hoyt (Madison, NH), Maria Mendes (Brockton, Mass.), Maria Pino (Revere, Mass.), Shannon Tonelli (Easthampton, Mass.), and Jesse Vega (Pawtucket, RI). The Crimson and Gold Tassel Selection Committee released its winners prior to the college’s commencement ceremony Saturday, May 15.
Hoyt maintained a 3.67 grade point average as a nursing major, and helped lead the women’s volleyball team to a conference quarterfinal match versus Endicott College in November. She also served as the team’s captain.
Mendes was a four-year athlete on the field hockey team, and maintained a 3.5 GPA while on the team. A communications major with a concentration in public health administration, Mendes was recently honored with the Mother Regis Award, the athletic department’s highest honor given to a female student-athlete.
Pino is the only three-sport athlete on the list. She was a member of the field hockey, swimming, and lacrosse teams this past year. Pino held a 3.6 GPA as a history major while competing, and helped lead the women’s lacrosse team to its first victory of the season in 2010.
Tonelli, a Fullbright Scholarship recipient, will be traveling to Peru to further her education. She was a member of the women’s soccer program, and held a 3.9 GPA in history and elementary education.
Vega was a three-year captain for the men’s basketball team, and original member of the first men’s basketball team. He will graduate having earned his degree in communications. Vega was also a mentor for the Warm2Kids program in Boston.
