How it Happened
Anna Maria struck first at the 11:38 mark with a goal from Comier, but they were held scoreless for the remainder of the first period. Hammon turned aside both of their shots on net, while his counterpart stopped all six Pride attempts to preserve a slim 1-0 advantage after one.
Klein quickly tied the game for the Pride, finding the back of the net in the opening minute of the second. That goal sparked a surge, as Jaynes fueled three unanswered tallies - two of his own and another off his assist - to give the Pride a 4-1 lead with 6:01 remaining in the half. The teams traded goals for the rest of the frame, sending the Pride into halftime with a 7-5 advantage.
Coming out of the break, Klein shifted into facilitator mode to open the third, setting up two goals by Jaynes and one by Brown to stretch the Pride's lead to 10-6 at the midway point. Jaynes later added his third goal of the period, helping the Pride carry an 11-6 lead into the final stanza.
The Pride extended their lead to start the fourth quarter, as six different goal scorers helped stretch the advantage to 17-7 with just over three minutes remaining. The Amcats made one final push in the closing minutes, scoring three unanswered goals, but it was too little, too late, as the Pride secured the 17-10 season-opening victory.
