Caruso Breaks 31-Year Program Record on Day Two of GNAC Championships
WORCESTER, Mass. — The Pride returned to the podium on the second day of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships, highlighted by Sophia Caruso's record-breaking performance in the 50 freestyle, where she shattered a 31-year-old mark. After two days the women's team sits in fourth with 366 points, just four points behind Simmons Univeristy. On the otherside, the men sit at third with 111 points, behind Norwich's 320.5 and the University of Saint Joseph's (USJ) 151.5.
Women's Team
- Sophia Caruso dominated the 50 freestyle today - opening the meet by breaking Kristie Leiner's previous school record by 0.09 seconds. She then claimed the top spot in the finals, lowering her own newly set program record to an impressive 23.95.
- The relay team of Jenna Silva, Kaylee King, Sophia Nylin, and Sophia Caruso secured a third-place finish with a time of 1:50.68.
- Ava Hubster earned her second third-place medal of the weekend in the 100 butterfly, clocking in at 1:07.24, a personal best for the junior.
Men's Team
- The men's 200 freestyle relay team of Ryan Kim, Michael Zammuto, Josh Dion, and Andrew Martin opened the finals with a bronze-medal performance, clocking in at 1:41.74.
- On the diving board, Zammuto and Dion added key points for the Pride with second and third-place finishes, respectively. Zammuto scored 272.65 points, followed by Dion's 257.60.
- Aryaman Nagaraj secured a third-place finish in the 50 backstroke with a time of 27.18, while Kim earned his first silver of the weekend in the 200 breaststroke, touching the wall at 2:14.52. Kim also nearly missed the podium in the 100 IM with a time of 58.03 for fourth overall.
- To close out the night, Gavin Olsen, Dion, Nagaraj, and Martin delivered one final podium appearance in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 8:39.75.
