Swim and Dive Trio Take Home GNAC Weekly Honors
WESTON, Mass. — After a strong weekend on the boards and in the pool, Michael Zammuto and Christina Dupre-Honda were named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Divers of the Week, while Sophia Caruso earned GNAC Rookie of the Week honors.
Zammuto opened the weekend on Friday night with a personal-best score of 324.65 in the one-meter, 11-dive event. He followed that performance at Simmons University by capturing first place on the three-meter board in the six-dive program with a personal-best score of 180.85. Zammuto also finished runner-up in the one-meter, 11-dive event with a score of 181.80.
Christina Dupre-Honda opened the weekend by capturing first place in the one-meter, 11-dive event with a score of 330.85. She continued her strong performances at Simmons University, where she again took the top spot in the one-meter, 11-dive event with a score of 227.55 before closing the meet with a first-place finish on the three-meter board in the six-dive program, scoring 161.80 to help lead the Pride to victories over both the hosts and Elms.
In the pool, Caruso continued her impressive rookie campaign by opening the weekend with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle, touching the wall in a personal-best time of 2:02.36 - nearly 11 seconds ahead of the runner-up. On Saturday, she captured the top spot in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.25, maintaining her streak as the Pride's leader in the event at every meet this season. Caruso added another victory in the 100 freestyle, winning in 55.77 and finishing more than two seconds ahead of the field.
The Diver of the Week honors marked the fourth of the season for both Zammuto and Dupre-Honda, while Caruso's Rookie of the Week selection was her fifth of the year and seventh overall.
The trio will be back in action next Saturday, January 31, when the Pride host Brandeis in their final meet before the GNAC Championships.
