Pride Open Season with Win Over Blue Jays
WESTON, Mass. -- The Regis College women's swimming and diving team opened its 2025–26 season with an impressive 163.5–125.5 victory over the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday.
The Pride came out strong as the relay team of Emma Tirri, Sophia Nylin (Malden, Mass.), Sophia Caruso, and Jenna Silva (New Bedford, Mass.) captured first place in the opening event, winning the 200-yard medley relay in 2:05.50. Ava Hubster (Crown Point, Ind.) kept the momentum going with a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle (12:44.24), while teammate Margaret Rivard (Springfield, N.H.) followed in second with a time of 14:25.02.
First-year Sophia Caruso made an immediate impact for the Crimson and Gold, sweeping her individual events with wins in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.58), 50-yard freestyle (25.81), and 100-yard freestyle (57.53). Nylin added victories in both the 50-yard breaststroke (37.37) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:22.37), while Tirri took the top spot in the 100-yard backstroke (1:11.19) and 50-yard backstroke (32.86). The Pride capped off the meet in the pool with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as Abby Parker (Peru, Mass.), Whitney Assamoi (Boston, Mass.), Rivard, and Hubster teamed up for the win.
On the diving board, Christina Dupre-Honda dominated the competition, winning the 1-meter event with a score of 158.80 — 31.6 points ahead of second place. She followed that performance with another impressive 1-meter score of 186.60, finishing just 2.2 points shy of the school record in her collegiate debut.
The Pride and Blue Jays will meet again on Friday, October 17, when Regis travels to Connecticut for the rematch.
