Raiders Pull Away from Pride in Nashua
NASHUA, N.H. — New Hampshire foe Rivier University came out on top over the Regis College women's lacrosse team in a 15-4 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup. The loss drops the Pride to 2-8 on the season and 2-7 in conference play.
Serenity Ayala led Regis with a pair of goals and an assist, while Molly Higgins and Maddie Sainato each added a goal to round out the scoring. In net, Daniela Mazo made nine saves in the effort.
For Rivier, Ashlynn Ledoux paced the offense with six goals and an assist, while Brooke Carter added four goals of her own. Defensively, Averie Proulx and Shaelyn Burke each recorded three caused turnovers, and Arrianna Imbriano earned the win in goal, making four saves.
How it Happened
Rivier made its presence felt early, scoring three quick goals within the opening two minutes before an Ayala tally at the 10:57 mark stopped the run. The Raiders added one more before the end of the quarter to take a 4-1 lead.
In the second quarter, Daniela Mazo made three saves to help limit the damage, as Rivier extended its advantage to 6-1 heading into halftime.
The Pride showed signs of life coming out of the break, as Bella Marini set up Molly Higgins before Ayala netted her second goal less than a minute later to make it 6-3 and cut the deficit in half with 12:45 remaining in the third. However, Rivier responded with three unanswered goals before Maddie Sainato scored off an Ayala assist to close the quarter at 9-4 entering the final 15 minutes.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Raiders, with Brooke Carter accounting for three of their six goals to help secure the 15-4 victory.
