Pride Erupt for 20 Goals in Commanding Win Over Mitchell
WESTON, Mass. — Four players recorded hat tricks as Regis College powered past Mitchell College, 20–1, tonight at Regis Stadium. With the win, the Pride improve to 1–2 overall and 1–1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
Serenity Ayala led the offensive surge with five goals and one assist, while also adding three caused turnovers. Melinda Carbone and Maddie Sainato each tallied three goals and two assists, and Audrey Mason contributed three goals and one assist. Defensively, Carbone and Molly Higgins anchored the effort with four caused turnovers apiece. In goal, Daniela Mazo earned the win for Regis.
Mitchell was led by Lauren Cordero, who scored the Mariners' lone goal, while Arrianna Stark made eight saves in net.
How it Happened
Regis (Mass.) came out firing in the first quarter, putting together a dominant offensive stretch to take early control of the game. Maddie Sainato opened the scoring at 7:43 with a free-position goal to give Regis the lead. Just over a minute later, Audrey Mason added an unassisted tally to make it 2-0.
The Pride kept the pressure on as Serenity Ayala found the back of the net at 4:42, extending the lead to three. Mason struck again at 3:37, finishing a setup from Sainato to showcase strong offensive chemistry. Sainato then capped the frame with her second free-position goal, giving Regis a 5-0 advantage after one.
The Pride continued their momentum in the second quarter, with six different players contributing to a seven-goal period as Regis built a commanding 12-0 lead heading into halftime.
Mason and Melinda Carbone added to their totals early in the third before Lauren Cordero broke through at the 11:04 mark to score Mitchell's first goal of the game. However, Ayala answered with the final two goals of the quarter, pushing the lead to 16-1.
Once again, the Pride spread the scoring in the fourth, with four different players finding the back of the net to cap off a dominant 20–1 victory.
