BUSIEK BLASTS SEVEN GOALS PAST TERRIERS IN 15-10 VICTORY
The Regis College women’s lacrosse team defeated Thomas College Saturday afternoon at the Regis College Athletic Fields by the score of 15-10. The Pride moves to 5-3 overall on the season, while the visiting Terriers drop to 2-2.
WESTON, Mass.- The Regis College women's lacrosse team defeated Thomas College Saturday afternoon at the Regis College Athletic Fields by the score of 15-10. The Pride moves to 5-3 overall on the season, while the visiting Terriers drop to 2-2.
Regis started the game with a quick tally in the first minute of play from freshman Adena Joseph (Stoughton, Mass.) who drove hard to the cage and was able to sneak a shot past the Terrier defense. Pride junior Teresa Busiek (Arlington, Mass.) gave Regis a 2-0 advantage when she went coast to coast and finished a fast break shot to continue the fast paced offensive attack.
Thomas countered a minute later with a drive from Ceara DiBase (Westbrook, Maine.) who cut through the Pride defense and put a shot into the back of the net to cut the Pride lead to one. Kim Migliara (Mastic, N.Y.) evened the score at 2-2 all three minutes later when she scored on a free position goal.
Joseph converted for her second goal of the game halfway through the first period. This point propelled the Pride to go on a 3-0 run with goals from Busiek and freshman Grace Politis (Billerica, Mass.). Politis capped this scoring drive scoring right before halftime giving Regis the lead 7-4.
Thomas opened the second half with a goal from Brittany Premo (Concord, N.H.) who scored on a man up opportunity after Politis was carded for a slash to the head. Regis responded to this tally with two quick goals from Busiek to make the score 9-5.
Terrier offense continued to chip away at the Pride defense halfway through the second period. Callie Joseph (Haverhill, Mass.) and Jillian Lambert (Dayton, Maine.) scored within the next three minutes to bring the Terriers within two goals of the lead.
The Pride defense would stay strong under goal keeper Meghan Ryan (Stowe, Vt.) who finished the game with nine saves. Regis exploded in the final ten minutes of play to tally four goals and expand its lead to five. Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) finished the Pride's scoring run on a well placed shot at the two minute mark.
Busiek led the Pride in scoring by tallying a game high of seven goals, while Politis chipped in notching four goals and two assists.
The Terriers offense was led by the trio of DiBase, Premo, and Jennifer Day (Gardiner, Maine.) who all combined to tallying six of Thomas's 10 goals.
The Pride returns to action Tuesday afternoon, when the team travels to Nashua, New Hampshire, to take on Daniel Webster College at 4:00 p.m. The Terriers next matchup is Sunday against Daniel Webster at 1:00 p.m.
