NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Softball was on the latter half of their back-to-back doubleheaders this weekend, taking on the Mariners of Mitchell College. The Pride would go .500 on the day moving their record to 4-16 and 1-5 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup.
Game One, Regis 4-0 Mitchell
Regis opened the doubleheader with a strong 4-0 win over Mitchell, powered by a dominant performance in the circle from Kate Julian. The Pride struck early, scoring in the first inning, and then broke things open with a three-run sixth to secure the victory.
Regis tallied seven hits on the day, with RBIs coming from Lynsey Kay, Gabby Blanchard, Avery Simpson, and Michaela Edwards. Francesca Licata led the offense with a triple, while Simpson added a key hit and RBI behind the plate. The Pride capitalized on Mitchell's defensive miscues, as three errors contributed to Regis' scoring opportunities.
On the slab, Kate Julian was outstanding, tossing a complete-game one-hitter. She kept Mitchell off balance all game, allowing just one hit while striking out five and not issuing a walk in a 69-pitch effort.
Mitchell's lone hit came from Olivia DeCicco, who also took the loss despite allowing just two earned runs over seven innings. Regis improves with the shutout win thanks to a balanced offensive attack and a lights-out pitching performance.
Game Two, Regis 0-8 Mitchell
Mitchell responded in game two of the doubleheader with an 8-0 win over the Pride, using an explosive early offensive surge to split the series on Saturday.
Mitchell wasted no time getting on the board, scoring two runs in the first inning before erupting for six more in the second to take full control. Cassandra Roman led the charge with a three-hit performance, driving in two runs and scoring twice, while Brooke Clancy added a pair of RBIs. The Mariners finished with nine hits and took advantage of three Regis errors to extend innings and build their lead.
Regis struggled to generate offense, managing just one hit in the game, which came off the bat of Francesca Licata. The Pride were unable to string together opportunities against Mitchell pitcher Arianna Drouin, who was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete-game one-hitter with just one strikeout and no walks.
