WESTON, Mass. — After a long-awaited return to their home field, the Regis College softball team welcomed Clark University to Weston for its 2026 home opener, kicking off the home slate with an exciting non-conference matchup. Game one required extra innings, where Clark edged out a 2-1 victory, before the Cougars rallied for a 4-2 win in game two to complete the sweep. The losses drop the Pride to 2-10 on the season.
Game One, Regis 1-2 Clark
Samantha Kelepouris and Mel Rees carried their momentum from the Florida trip, opening the second frame with a single and a double, respecitvely. Grace Motto's disciplined at-bat loaded the bases, but the Cougars' pitcher escaped the jam with a strikeout, stranding all three runners and keeping the game scoreless.
The Pride broke through in the third. Sydney Grund led off with a single before advancing on a sacrifice bunt by Francesca Licata and a throwing error. Kay then delivered a triple to deep right field to bring home the game's first run. Mel Rees nearly added another a batter later, but a standout catch by the left fielder ended the threat.
Clark answered in the fifth, capitalizing on a Regis error to put a runner aboard. A sacrifice bunt moved her into scoring position, and a sacrifice fly brought her home to tie the game at 1-1.
Kay stayed hot at the plate in the sixth, leading off with a double off the fence. She moved into scoring position on a bunt by Kelepouris, but the Cougars retired the next two batters to escape the inning and keep the game tied heading into the seventh.
Kate Julian and the Regis defense were sharp in the top of the seventh, retiring the side to give the Pride a chance to walk it off. However, Clark's defense held firm in the bottom half, sending the game into extra innings.
In the eighth, the Cougars pushed across the go-ahead run to take a 2-1 lead. Regis looked to respond in the bottom half, as Licata singled with one out to put runners on first and second. A wild pitch moved both into scoring position, but Clark's defense held on to secure the 2-1 extra-inning victory.
Game Two, Regis 2-4 Clark
After a wild pitch brought home the game's first run in the opening inning, Lynsey Kay looked to spark the offense with a hard-hit single through the right side. Samantha Kelepouris followed with a double, but the Cougars' defense recorded the final out to strand the runners and maintain the lead after one.
Mya Gaspie responded in the second, accounting for two of the three outs via strikeout before delivering at the plate in the home half with a double that brought Avery Simpson around to tie the game at one.
A defensive stalemate followed over the next three innings, with Gaspie continuing to deal in the circle and adding three more strikeouts to her tally.
In the bottom of the fifth, Sydney Grund worked a walk to ignite the offense, and Francesca Licata doubled to right center to put runners in scoring position. Kay then reached on a shortstop error, allowing Grund to score and give the Pride a 2-1 advantage.
Clark answered in the seventh, piecing together a single and a double to tie the game before continuing the pressure with timely hitting and aggressive baserunning. A two-run single pushed the Cougars ahead 4-2. Regis attempted to respond in the bottom half, as Madi Zancan led off with a single, but the Pride were unable to capitalize, with Clark closing out the game to complete the sweep.
