Capobianco Steps Down as Regis Men’s Soccer Coach After 15 Seasons
WESTON, Mass. — Regis College announced that Renato Capobianco will step down as head coach of the men's soccer program after 15 seasons at the helm, with today, Friday January 16 marking his final day in the role.
Capobianco has led the Pride since 2011, becoming the winningest coach in program history with 105 career victories. Over his tenure, he helped elevate the program both competitively and academically while establishing a culture built on discipline, development, and service to the college community.
This past season was one of the most successful in program history. Capobianco guided the Pride to a program-record eight conference wins and coached the team to its highest finish in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC). Despite being projected to finish seventh in the preseason poll, Regis exceeded expectations by placing third in the conference standings, earning the program a home game in the first round of the GNAC tournament. His outstanding leadership was recognized as he was named GNAC Coach of the Year for the second time in his career (2016, 2025), while goalkeeper Chris Alcon earned Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
Throughout his career at Regis, Capobianco made a lasting impact on the men's soccer program and the athletic department as a whole. Under his leadership, the Pride produced 22 All-Conference selections, 10 All-Tournament honorees, and 88 All-Academic honorees. His teams also earned 15 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District recognitions, reflecting a consistent emphasis on excellence in the classroom as well as on the field.
Capobianco's contributions extended beyond soccer, as he also served as the Director of Strength & Conditioning for Regis Athletics. In that role, he led the design and construction of the Regis Athletics' Varsity Weight Room, which opened in October 2018 and continues to benefit student-athletes across all programs. He also created the department's annual Power Award, presented to the team that makes the greatest commitment to maximizing its time and effort in the weight room each year.
In May 2019, Capobianco also received the Faculty/Staff Appreciation Award from the Regis Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, further highlighting his dedication to the student-athlete experience and the broader campus community.
"Coach Capobianco was a key member of our Regis College Athletic Department for 15 years and he is leaving a great legacy," said Pam Roecker, Dean of Athletics. "A prolific recruiter, Coach Capobianco was consistently able to field quality teams with prospects from a geographically diverse footprint. He brought dozens if not hundreds of men to Regis that excelled in the classroom as well as on the soccer field, and he always embodied our philosophy that 'coaches are educators too.' In his position as Strength & Conditioning Coach he elevated our entire program, especially through his role with designing our Varsity Weight Room. Coach Capobianco instituted the 'Power Award' which he awards annually to the team that worked the hardest in the weight room, and most importantly he inspired and motivated our student-athletes to the benefits of strength training. We wish Coach Capobianco the very best of luck in his new career endeavors, and we thank him for his contribution to Pride Athletics over the last 15 years!"
A search for the next head men's soccer coach is underway. Capobianco leaves behind a legacy of competitive success, academic achievement, and a commitment to the holistic development of student-athletes that will remain a foundation of the program moving forward.
