Men’s Lacrosse Postseason Preview: Regis College Pride Ready for GNAC Tournament Debut
WESTON, Mass. -- The Regis College Pride men's lacrosse team is stepping into a new chapter in program history as they prepare for the postseason, earning the No. 8 seed in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament. This marks the program's first conference playoff appearance in the GNAC era and its first postseason berth since the 2017 New England Collegiate Conference Tournament, when the Pride faced Daniel Webster College.
This season represents a clear turning point for the program, as Regis recorded its highest conference win total since that 2017 campaign, signaling progress and momentum within the GNAC.
The Pride now face a tough challenge, traveling to take on top-seeded reigning champions, Rivier University, who remain unbeaten against GNAC opponents this season. Regis will look to hand Rivier its first loss to a GNAC foe and pull off a statement upset.
Offensively, Regis is powered by a veteran core. Nick Klein leads the team with 50 goals on the season - ranking third in the GNAC - while also adding 13 assists, a new single-season high. Jack Jaynes complements him with 35 goals and 13 assists, forming a dynamic scoring duo.
The offense is further bolstered by rookie Ian Brown and sophomore Luke Meelia, who have provided consistent and timely scoring throughout the season.
At the faceoff X, Matt Cabassa has been a difference-maker, controlling possession and contributing a team-best 18 assists while setting the tone with his energy and playmaking ability.
Defensively, Colin McGarry and Devin Hammon anchor the unit. McGarry leads the team with 34 caused turnovers, including a program-record seven in a single game earlier this season, and continues to build on his place in the record books. In goal, Hammon has delivered a career year with 178 saves and the second-best save percentage in program history at just over 51 percent. He's proven capable against high-powered offenses, highlighted by a 32-save performance against Lasell University earlier this season.
The winner of this matchup will advance to face the winner of Emmanuel College and Norwich University in the next round.
With a postseason berth secured and program history already made, the Pride now turn their focus to extending their season and continuing to redefine their place in the GNAC.
