Men's Basketball Returns To The Win Column, Beating Rivier 77-71
WESTON, Mass -- The Regis men's basketball team was back in action today for Weston Youth Basketball Day, welcoming conference foe Rivier University. The Pride did not disappoint the youth as they beat the Raiders 77-71, pushing their record to 10-8 and 1-4 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
How it Happened
Regis jumped out early behind sharp perimeter shooting from Gehrig Brynda and Aamyr Sullivan who did not miss a beat in his three-game absence, knocking down a pair of triples to give the Pride an early edge. Jamir Harvey was a steady facilitator, setting up multiple baskets while also contributing on the defensive end with rebounds and a block. Brynda stayed hot throughout the half, drilling several triples and anchoring Regis' defense with multiple blocks, helping the Pride build a double-digit lead midway through the period. Rivier responded with interior scoring and trips to the free-throw line late in the half, trimming the deficit, but Regis closed strong with baskets from Sullivan and Harvey to take a 43–33 lead into halftime.
Rivier opened the second half strong, but Regis answered, controlling the tempo inside to keep the Pride comfortably in front. Every time Rivier threatened a run led by Izaiah Shaw-Glen and Matt Youngquist, Brynda responded from beyond the arc, burying multiple momentum-stopping threes to steady the Pride. Regis' bench stayed productive, with Elliott and Chinn providing energy on the glass and timely scoring. Down the stretch, Regis managed the clock effectively, converting free throws and answering late Rivier baskets to close out a 77–71 victory.
