Harvey Nets 1,000th Career Point in GNAC Setback
WESTON, Mass. — Senior forward Jamir Harvey reached the 1,000-point milestone in his career during Saturday afternoon's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup, but the Regis College men's basketball team fell to Albertus Magnus, 80-70. The loss drops the Pride to 9-5 overall and 0–1 in early conference play.
Harvey led Regis with 22 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists. Rob Elliott added 13 points, while Gehrig Brynda chipped in 12 points and six boards in the effort.
Albertus Magnus placed three players in double figures, led by Ray Ford Jr.'s game-high 23 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Isaiah Earl followed with 20 points, and Jayquan Kirkland rounded out the scoring with 19 in the victory.
How it Happened
Six minutes into the action, Gehrig Brynda and Rob Elliott connected on back-to-back three-pointers to knot the game at 10. Albertus Magnus responded quickly, however, as an Isaiah Earl dunk reclaimed the lead and forced the Pride into a timeout. The stoppage did little to slow the Falcons, who built a 22–13 advantage before a Brynda triple at the 10:30 mark stemmed the run. Aamyr Sullivan later brought Regis within five at 7:52, but that would be as close as the Pride would get in the opening half. Earl capped the period with a basket on the final possession, sending Albertus into the break with a 42–32 lead.
Jamir Harvey was the answer for Regis to open the second half, scoring the team's first six points before Brynda's third three of the afternoon trimmed the deficit to 48–41 with 15:19 remaining. The Falcons responded once again, pushing their lead back to 15 at the 12:35 mark. Harvey then reignited both his team and the crowd with a tough and-one, which also marked his 1,000th career point, cutting the margin to nine at 63–54. Despite the surge, Albertus continued to find answers on the offensive end.
A two-handed dunk by Harvey sparked a brief five-point run to bring the Pride within 10, but the game would go scoreless over the final 1:46, with neither team converting a field goal. The drought allowed the Falcons to close out an 80–70 victory over Regis.
