Women's Volleyball Championship Preview
WESTON, Mass. — After a thrilling 3-1 victory over top-seeded Emmanuel College, the Regis women's volleyball team is heading to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship to face second-seeded Lasell University at the Athletic Center on theie campus in Newton, Massachusetts at 1:30 p.m.
This matchup is a rematch of the 2023 GNAC Championship, where the Lasers defeated the Pride 3-1. Six current members of the Pride - along with volunteer assistant coach Kate Montigny - remain from that 2023 squad and bring renewed energy and experience as they head into Saturday.
The Pride have surged through the postseason, playing with a fresh confidence and energy that has powered them to two postseason upsets on the road, including last night's 3–1 win over Emmanuel - the Saints' first conference loss of the season.
Regis has showcased a balanced postseason attack from both returners and first-years. Eva Catalanotto (Cheshire, Conn.) has delivered some of her best performances yet, posting back-to-back 20-plus point efforts. She recorded 15 kills (.353) and four blocks against Rivier, followed by 16 kills (.429) and a dominant seven blocks against Emmanuel's high-powered offense. At the net alongside her is Grace Fabiano (Greenland, N.H.), who has also excelled, turning in 15 and 12 kills, respectively, with four blocks in each match.
Avery Mola (Cheshire, Conn.) and Beatriz Paulo (Newton, Mass.) have added to the offensive spark as well. Mola is averaging 11.5 kills and 13.5 digs this postseason, while Paulo has contributed an average of seven kills, 13.5 digs, and 3.5 aces.
Fueling the attack is sophomore standout Alexandra Rivera (Bristol, Conn.), who continues to affirm her status as one of the top setters in both the conference and the program. She is averaging 43 assists per match in the postseason and has continued to build on the single-season assist record she set earlier this year, bringing her total to an impressive 948.
The winner of the GNAC Championship will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Tournament.
