Women's Volleyball Postseason Preview
WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's volleyball team will begin its postseason run tomorrow as the No. 5 seed, traveling to No. 4 Rivier University for the quarterfinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament. This marks the fifth straight season that the Pride have earned a spot in the postseason. Regis closed out its regular-season schedule with a 17-13 overall record and a 9-4 mark in GNAC play.
The two teams squared off this past Saturday in the regular-season finale, where Rivier came away with a 3-0 victory to secure home-court advantage for the rematch.
Regis has relied on a balanced offensive and defensive attack all season. Junior Avery Mola (Cheshire, Conn.) leads the team in kills (246), points (312.5), digs (260), and service aces (54). Fellow junior Grace Fabiano (Greenland, N.H.) has been a key contributor on both sides of the net, ranking second on the team in kills (231) and leading the defense in total blocks (101).
First-year standout Eva Catalanotto (Cheshire, Conn.) has made an immediate impact, earning five GNAC Rookie of the Week honors and one Player of the Week recognition. She has tallied 218 kills and 69 blocks, rounding out the Pride's strong front-line presence.
Setting the tone for the offense is Alexandra Rivera (Bristol, Conn.), who has had a record-breaking season. Rivera set new program records for both single-match assists (49) and single-season assists (862). She has notched 17 matches with 30 or more assists, including five with 40 or more, serving as the driving force behind the Pride's offensive rhythm.
The team is guided by fifth-year head coach Josh Anderson, who reached a milestone earlier this season by earning his 100th career victory in a win over Colby-Sawyer.
As the Pride head into the GNAC quarterfinals, they'll look to avenge Saturday's loss and extend their season further. With a balanced roster of veteran leadership and rising talent, Regis enters the tournament battle-tested and ready to compete for a spot in the conference semifinals.
