Gevry Picks Up Second GNAC Rookie of Week Honor
WINTHROP, Mass. – After helping Regis College reach the championship match of the 2021 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Tennis Tournament, Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) has been named the GNAC Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, announced Monday by the league office.
Wednesday against Albertus Magnus, she teamed with Kaeleigh FitzPatrick (South Windsor, Conn.) for an 8-0 victory in doubles, and then she held a significant lead in singles (6-1, 4-0) when the overall match reached decision.
In Saturday's semifinal contest against Simmons, she again teamed with FitzPatrick to win the doubles set, 8-4, and she won the first set of her singles match before it was stopped (6-3, 1-1).
In her first collegiate season, Gevry is currently 6-3 in singles and 7-2 in doubles. She was previously named GNAC Rookie of the Week on Sept. 20.
Regis College (7-4), the third seed in the GNAC Tournament, heads to New London, N.H., to face top seed Colby-Sawyer in the championship match Saturday, Oct. 23, starting at 1 p.m. The winner earns the conference title and receives the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament, to be played next spring.
