WESTON, Mass. - Coach Ciarleglio and the Regis College's women's tennis team are excited to welcome Amy Dipace (Cambridge, Mass.), Sara Kanarkiewicz (Peabody, Mass.), Emily Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.), and Cierra Prempeh (Irvington, N.J.). Coach C. is looking forward to another successful season in the NECC. Joining the team's six solid returning players, these four players will add depth to the roster.
Dipace has been playing tennis since the second grade in the Cambridge Park & Recreation tennis program. Since the beginning of her tennis training, Amy has also played with her mom, who is an alumna of the varsity tennis team at Cambridge, Rindge & Latin High School. Dipace's family has a summer home in Falmouth, Mass., on Cape Cod and Amy has taken full advantage of this, diligently working on her skills and game every summer. Amy has played for the Cambridge Rindge & Latin varsity team for all four of her high school years. Freshman and sophomore year she played second doubles, moving up to 1st dubs her junior and senior years. As a senior she has been a team captain.
Why did Dipace choose Regis? With her plan to major in biology and possibly switch to nursing, Regis has solid academics in both these areas. "I also like the fact that Regis is close to my home and that the campus is absolutely beautiful! Of course the opportunity to play on the women's tennis team was also a big plus." Amy enjoys any type of music, but her favorites are country and hip hop. Dipace has always been an athlete and loves to run for fun and to keep in shape.
Sara Marie Kanarkiewicz started playing tennis in middle school taking advantage of a Peabody Park & Rec program and began private lessons at Northeast Tennis Center (NTC) in the seventh grade. In the summer before 8th grade, Kanarkiewicz ramped up her tennis skills by attending NTC's summer tennis camp and has attended the camp every summer since. For all of her high school years, Sara has played 2 to 3 times per week, including clinics, match play and private lessons. She attended Bishop Fenwick High School, and played on their tennis team beginning with 2nd doubles freshman year and working her way up to 1st singles her senior year while also serving as team captain. She was recognized as a Catholic Central League All Star three consecutive years as well as team MVP senior year. Sara's strength and favorite part of tennis is serving. Her favorite players are Andy Murray, Kim Clijsters and the Bryon Brothers.
During downtime from studies and tennis, Sara enjoys reading, hanging out with friends, shopping and traveling to new places. Regarding the latter, during Christmas break this year she and some of her Bishop Fenwick class mates went on a fantastic trip to Paris and London. Her music interests are electronic dance music and alternative. Sara will be pursuing a Nursing degree and is already getting some experience as she currently works at Salem Hospital. Sara hopes to someday work at Mass General or Children's Hospital. She is excited to be part of the Regis women's tennis team.
Emily Morgenbesser is excited to be attending Regis this coming year as a freshman and joining the tennis team. She has been playing tennis since the age of 3, starting out at the Eastern Athletic Club in Blue Point, New York. Morgenbesser continued to play there throughout her elementary school years. As she improved, Emily began lessons at Westhampton Beach Tennis Club. She also attended the Chris Evert tennis academy in Florida a number of times. Tennis and Regis are a family tradition as she follows her brother Jeremy, who will be a sophomore at Regis, playing on the men's team for a second year.
In high school, Morgenbesser joined the varsity team in 7th grade. Through her six year career on the team, she moved up from fourth singles to third singles and into the number one singles spot for both junior and senior years. She won first place in doubles at the Suffolk County playoffs and in her senior year only dropped two matches the entire season. Emily has also taught tennis for the last three years for the Bayport Blue Point Community Tennis Association and her home club, Eastern Athletic.
Regis was a no brainer for Emily when deciding where to attend college with its beautiful surroundings, exceptional teachers, welcoming feel and proximity to Boston. Morgenbesser plans to study pre-law at Regis, with a goal of becoming a criminal trial attorney. In her spare time, Emily enjoys drawing and painting and spending time with friends. She plans to continue on with art classes at Regis.
Cierra Prempeh is very much looking forward to joining the class of 2018 and the Regis women's tennis team. Her favorite sports are tennis and soccer, but Cierra switched to tennis in high school because both sports are in the same season. Prempeh has been playing tennis since sophomore year, learning from her high school coach and players around the community, along with hitting on her own. Besides tennis, Cierra loves to play and watch soccer with her dad and sister. In her free time she enjoys hanging out with friends and watching movies, and going to the mall. Her favorite genre of movies includes horror/thriller, comedy, and suspense. Cierra listens to all types of music, but her favorite is R&B. Her favorite artist is Bruno Mars.
There were many obstacles that Prempeh had to overcome in order to be able to attend Regis. The major ones were financial and distance from home and family. She worked to overcome these because of the desire and passion she has for Regis. "It has everything I have ever wanted in a school - my academic interests both biochemistry and political science, a study abroad program and it's a Roman Catholic college. It's also is right outside of Boston, which I plan to take advantage of. And I will be playing intercollegiate tennis! It's exactly the kind of environment that I see myself being successful in!"
The Regis College women's team begins the season on Thursday, September 4 in the Pride's home opener versus Eastern Nazarene College.
