HIGGINS GRABS GNAC WEEKLY HONOR
Regis College freshman Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, it was announced on Monday afternoon. Higgins has had a strong start to her Regis campaign as the team sits at 1-1 on the year.
WESTON, Mass. – Regis College freshman Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, it was announced on Monday afternoon. Higgins has had a strong start to her Regis campaign as the team sits at 1-1 on the year.
Also named to the GNAC weekly honor roll were Haley Bowen (Litchfield, N.H.), Kiet Luong (Malden, Mass.), and Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.).
In a 140-96 win over Husson to start the year, Higgins posted wins in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:02.68, 200 yard freestyle (2:09.56), 50 yard backstroke (32.38), and the 100 yard backstroke (1:07.41). This past Saturday, Higgins and the 200 medley relay team had another first place finish at 2:01.44 as the Pride fell to the University of New England, 161-101. Higgins also added a second place showing in the 200 yard freestyle (2:08.70), 100 yard backstroke (1:07.20), and 500 yard freestyle (5:57.67).
Bowen won three events in the win over Husson, taking home first place in the 200 medley relay (2:02.68), 50 breaststroke (34.00), and 100 breaststroke (1:15.04). Against UNE, Bowen added wins in the 200 medley relay (2:01.44) and 100 breaststroke (1:15.52).
Luong has helped lead the Pride to a 2-0 mark in two meets this year. Luong won a pair of events in a 140-96 including the 200 yard freestyle (2:03.34) and 50 yard backstroke (26.03). In a 125-44 win over UNE, Luong posted wins in the 200 medley relay (1:52.30), 50 yard backstroke (28.35), 100 yard butterfly (54.64), and 50 yard butterfly (25.38).
Nicke Rainville won two events against Husson, including the 200 medley relay (1:47.96) and 100 yard butterfly (1:00.93). He was also a part of the 200 medley relay team that took home first place with a time of 1:52.30 against UNE.
The Regis College swimming and diving teams return to the pool on Saturday morning when they host Bridgewater State University in an 11:00 a.m. meet.
