Mazo Surpasses 400 Career Saves Despite Loss To Emmanuel
BOSTON, MASS -- The Pride women's lacrosse team made the short trip to the city to take on the Saints of Emmanuel College. Despite a decent effort, Regis would fall in this one. With the loss their record falls to 2-7 and 2-6 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
Serenity Ayala continued her recent form scoring three goals despite the loss while Anna Theriault added five ground balls.
For the Saints, Daphne Blake, Emilia Ferraro, and Madeline Wright combined for 10 goals in the victory.
How It Happened
Emmanuel set the tone early, applying steady pressure in the offensive end. After several defensive stops by Regis, the Saints broke through with back‑to‑back goals from Madeline Wright and Ella Stein, both created off draw‑controls won by Delaney Johnston. Regis struggled to clear consistently, and although Daniela Mazo made multiple saves en route to her 400th career to keep the Pride within reach, Emmanuel's ground‑ball advantage allowed them to carry a 2–1 lead into the break.
Regis opened the second quarter with renewed energy. After Serenity Ayala secured the draw and Maddie Sainato buried a free‑position shot to cut the deficit. The quarter became a defensive grind on both sides: Emmanuel forced repeated turnovers, while Regis countered. After multiple Emmanuel looks, they would take multi‑goal cushion heading into halftime.
Emmanuel came out firing, scoring immediately off the draw as Rylie Hogan scored to spark a series of goals that extended the lead. Regis answered through Sainato, Ayala, and a free‑position finish from Emerson Adams, but each push was met with an Emmanuel response. Despite strong individual defensive plays from Regis, Emmanuel closed the quarter with a commanding advantage.
The final quarter followed the same pattern as Regis continued to battle, with Ayala generating multiple draw wins and Higgins and Theriault producing defensive stops, but Emmanuel's pressure limited offensive opportunities eventually leading them to the 16-6 victory.
