Balanced Attack Powers Pride to 13-7 Win Over Dean
WESTON, Mass. — Three different student-athletes recorded hat tricks to power the Pride back into the win column with an 13-7 victory over Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Dean College. With the win, Regis improves to 2-7 overall and 2-6 in conference play.
Paige Ritchie paced the offense with a game-high three goals and two assists. Molly Higgins and Maddie Sainato also notched hat tricks, with Sainato controlling the draw effectively with four wins, while Higgins added three. Serenity Ayala chipped in with two goals to round out the scoring effort. Defensively, Anna Theriault continued to anchor the Pride, causing five turnovers. In goal, Daniela Mazo earned the win, playing 30 minutes and recording one save.
For the Bulldogs, Ali Murphy led all scorers with four goals, while Emma Mock added two. Shea Cassani kept Dean within striking distance with an impressive 18 saves, including 10 in the second half.
How it Happened
Dean struck first just three minutes into the game, but Molly Higgins answered with a free-position goal to even the score. From there, the Pride took control and never looked back. Behind a pair of goals from Maddie Sainato, Regis added three more tallies to build a 4-1 lead after the opening quarter.
Murphy opened the second quarter with a free-position goal to cut the deficit in half, but Serenity Ayala responded quickly on the other end and later added her own free-position score to make it 5-2 with 7:51 remaining in the half. Paige Ritchie then helped extend the advantage, first setting up a teammate before scoring herself moments later, giving the Pride an 8-2 lead at the break.
The Bulldogs came out strong in the third quarter, with Murphy netting two more goals, but the Pride answered every push. Three different goal scorers found the back of the net for Regis, maintaining an 11-5 lead heading into the final period.
The fourth quarter followed a similar pattern, with both teams trading goals. Melinda Carbone connected with Emerson Adams for the game's final tally, sealing a 13-7 victory for the Pride.
