PRIDE NAMED NECC PRESEASON FAVORITES
The Regis College women's lacrosse team has been selected as the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) preseason favorite for the upcoming season, as determined by a vote amongst the league's coaches.
WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's lacrosse team has been selected as the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) preseason favorite for the upcoming season, as determined by a vote amongst the league's coaches. This will be the NECC's inaugural season of women's lacrosse.
The Pride received five out of six possible first place votes for 35 points to top the poll. Regis finished the 2012 season with a 9-4 record and returns eight starters from last year's squad, highlighted by sophomore attacker Grace Politis (Billerica, Mass.). Politis had a standout freshman campaign which saw her become the NCAA Division III statistical champion for goals per game average (5.69), while she also ranked in the top-20 in the country for total goals (74) and points per game (6.38).
Becker College, who returns ten starters from last season, finished second in the poll after picking up 30 points and one first place vote. Daniel Webster was selected to finish third, while Elms, Wheelock, and Bay Path round out fourth, fifth, and sixth place, respectively.
At the end of the regular season, the top four teams will qualify for the NECC Tournament, which is scheduled for May 1 (Semifinals) and May 4 (Championship).
The Pride will kick off their season tonight at 6:00 p.m. as the travel to Rivier University for a non-conference game.
