Pride Drop Home Contest to Emmanuel
WESTON, Mass. — In a change of venue, the Regis College women's basketball team hosted neighboring Emmanuel College on Wednesday night at Higgins Court, where the Saints pulled out the 90-76 victory, dropping the Pride to 6-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play and 9-12 overall.
Senior Madi Zancan delivered a complete performance, stuffing the stat sheet with 27 points on 10-of-18 shooting, 12 rebounds, six assists, and five steals. Jillian Perry added 17 points to go along with five steals and four assists, while Zoey Swanson and Erika Marinelli rounded out the scoring with seven points apiece.
For Emmanuel, Nylah Mitchell paced the Saints with 27 points on an efficient 13-of-17 shooting off the bench, adding six rebounds. Tyra Blye chipped in 22 points and six boards, while Megan Reilly and Geanna Bryant each finished with 11 points. Lia Kruiman facilitated the offense with a game-high seven assists.
How it Happened
The opening quarter featured a fast-paced, high-scoring battle as the two teams traded baskets early. Emmanuel used a seven-point unanswered run to take an 11-4 advantage with just over six minutes remaining. A Riley Whittier three-pointer at the 4:33 mark pulled the Pride within one possession, but the Saints responded and, despite six points from Madi Zancan over the final three minutes, Emmanuel carried a 31-20 lead into the second quarter.
Four straight Regis points at the six-minute mark of the second trimmed the deficit to single digits at 35-26, but the momentum was short-lived as the Saints answered with back-to-back baskets. Emmanuel limited the Pride to just four field goals over the final five minutes of the half, while Blye and Mitchell fueled the Saints' offense to close the period, giving their squad a 53–34 advantage at the break.
Coming out of the break the Saints used an early 8-0 run to extend the lead to 63-40 before a Zancan jumper in the lane stopped the bleeding. Zancan accounted for the Pride's remaining seven points of the quarter as the Saints continued to build their cushion, heading into the final stanza with a commanding 71-49 lead.
Regis opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back three-pointers from Sophia Pollini to spark the Pride and cut the deficit to 71–55 with 8:43 remaining. However, Emmanuel quickly reestablished a 20-point advantage, though a Whittier layup made it an 18-point game with under two minutes to play. Despite aggressive late drives from Perry and Zancan, the deficit proved too much to overcome as the Saints secured the 90-76 victory.
