Rams Best Pride in Pre-Thanksgiving Matchup
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Prior to the Thanksgiving recess, the Regis women's basketball team traveled to Framingham State University for a non-conference matchup, where the Rams came away with a 78–56 win, dropping the Pride to 2–5 on the season.
Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.) continued to shine for the Pride, delivering an efficient 17-point (6–8 FG), 10-rebound double-double. Jillian Perry (Melrose, Mass.) added 16 points, with 12 coming from beyond the arc.
Kelsey Yelle powered the Rams with a 13-point, 15-rebound double-double, while Jacqueline Schels stuffed the stat sheet with five assists and seven rebounds. Abigail Martin contributed a game-high 19 points in the victory.
How it Happened
Behind three early points from Kailyn Smith (Chelmsford, Mass.), the Pride held a slim 5–4 advantage just past the midway point. But nine unanswered points from the Rams swung the momentum and put the home team in front. A Jordyn Striggles (Raynham, Mass.) three briefly slowed the surge, but the Rams closed the quarter with a pair of late baskets to maintain a 17-9 lead after one.
The Rams extended their advantage to 15 with seven straight points to open the second. A Smith free throw and a Zoey Swanson (North Easton, Mass.) bucket stopped the bleeding and pulled Regis back within 24-12 just over the five-minute mark. That would be as close as the Pride would get in the frame, as another Rams run pushed the margin to as many as 21 before they entered the half ahead, 35-16.
Regis posted its highest scoring quarter of the night in the third, putting up 19 points - nine of them of the hands of Zancan - but the Pride couldn't find the defensive answer they needed as the Rams knocked down five threes in the period to take a comfortable 61–35 lead into the final frame.
The Rams continued to add to their lead to open the fourth, stringing together another run before a Striggles jumper at the 6:34 mark finally halted the surge. Moments later, Zancan converted the bruise-and-bucket to bring the deficit down to 67-40 with 5:52 remaining. Perry then caught fire from beyond the arc, knocking down back-to-back threes to help the Pride chip away, but the gap proved too large to overcome as the Rams closed out a 78-56 victory.
