Dominant Second Half Propels Pride Past Lyons, 67-47, in Home Debut
WESTON, Mass. — The Regis College women's basketball team hosted the Lyons of Mount Holyoke this afternoon for their 2025–26 home opener, where the Pride improved to 2-4 on the season with a 67-47 victory.
The Pride were powered by another strong performance from Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.), who recorded a 19-point, 11-rebound double-double on an efficient 9-of-12 shooting. Riley Whittier (Marlborough, Mass.) added nine points off the bench and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Defensively, Jillian Perry (Melrose, Mass.) made her presence felt with five blocks to go along with five points.
For the Lyons, Taryn White led the way with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Sofia Francisco and Melina Peña chipped in eight points apiece. Francisco also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds in the effort.
How it Happened
Mount Holyoke jumped out to an early lead as the Pride failed to register a field goal in the opening quarter. Zancan provided all three of Regis' points at the free-throw line, while Maya Reynolds (Niagra Falls, N.Y.) supplied the only other offense as the Lyons netted 11 to take the early edge.
The momentum shifted in the second quarter. A three from Jordyn Striggles (Raynham, Mass.) followed by a deep triple from Erika Marinelli (Point Pleasant, N.J.) sparked the Pride. In the final four minutes of the half, Regis forced eight turnovers and began stringing together productive possessions. Serenity Ayala (North Brookfield, Mass.) closed the frame with a perfect 2-for-2 trip to the line, then secured a strong offensive rebound and finished the putback to send the Pride into halftime with a 25–24 lead.
The third quarter belonged entirely to Regis, who outscored the Lyons 23-7. A Marinelli three, followed by a tough bucket plus the foul from Perry, ignited a 10-0 run that pushed the Pride ahead 35-24 just three minutes into the half. Mount Holyoke managed only two field goals the rest of the way as the Pride carried a 48-31 advantage into the fourth.
The Lyons used a triple to trim the deficit to 13 with 5:49 remaining, but the Pride responded with a 9-1 run to establish their largest lead of the game at 63-39 before closing out the 67-47 victory on Higgins Court.
