WESTON, Mass. - The Regis College women's basketball team, the defending New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Champions, have been selected to finish atop of the league this season according to the NECC Preseason Poll. Placement is determined by a vote amongst the league's coaches.
The Pride earned 98 points, including eight first place votes, to top the poll. Regis finished last season with a 23-5 overall record, which included a perfect regular season in conference play for the second consecutive year. The Pride capped off a stellar year by earning the league's automatic bid to the DIII NCAA Tournament.
Coming in at second in the poll was Elms, which earned 91 points and the only other first place votes (2). The Blazers, the 2012-2013 NECC finalists, return four starters from last year's squad.
Newbury and Becker tied for third place in the poll with 65 points apiece, while Mitchell rounds out the top five with 61 points. Bay Path (52), Daniel Webster (49), Southern Vermont (26), Lesley (22), and Wheelock (21) wrap up the bottom half of the poll, respectively.
