Rees Powers Offense Through Week One to Claim GNAC Player of the Week
WESTON, Mass. – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) has named Mel Rees GNAC Player of the Week following an outstanding performance during the opening week of her junior season at The Spring Games in Florida.
Rees led the offense across seven games, posting a .542 batting average, a .542 on-base percentage, and a .667 slugging percentage, going 13-for-24 at the plate. She totaled 16 bases, including three doubles and six RBIs, consistently contributing to her team's success. Rees recorded multiple hits in four games, highlighted by a 3-for-4 performance with a double and four RBIs in a 5-1 victory over North Central (Ill.). She added another 3-for-4 game against Blackburn and a 2-for-4 effort with a double and two RBIs in a 9-4 win over Skidmore.
Defensively, Rees was flawless, handling 11 chances without an error for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. She also contributed on the mound, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing just two earned runs.
This honor marks Rees' first GNAC weekly award since her rookie season, when she earned both Player and Rookie of the Week honors on April 1. The recognition brings her career total of GNAC weekly awards to three.
Rees and the Pride are back in action this Saturday with their home opener against GNAC foe, Rivier University.
