Men's Volleyball Falls to #15 Wentworth In Midweek Matchup
BOSTON, Mass. – The Regis men's volleyball team made the short trip to Wentworth for another midweek Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. The Pride would be no match for the #15 Leopards, losing in three straight sets. With the loss, the Pride's record dropped to 12-11, and 0-3 in GNAC play.
Xavier Reyes continued his recent form, providing three kills to compliment Adam Bonica's seven kills and six digs.
The Leopards were led by Matthew Zegowitz and Alem Dubcak who combined for 18 kills.
How It Happened
Wentworth jumped out early and controlled much of the opening set, using a balanced attack led by Matthew Zegowitz and Cody Popp to build a 7–4 advantage. Regis responded with strong net play from Jalen Watt and Xavier Reyes, tightening the score and eventually evening things at 12–12 following a service ace from Evan Shank. Despite the mid-set surge, WIT regained momentum, along with a steady serving run that stretched the lead. WIT pulled away to close the set 25–17.
The second set followed a similar pattern, with WIT taking control early and forcing Regis to play from behind. After a competitive start, WIT used a decisive serving run from Alem Dubcak to break the set open and extend the lead to 16–11. Regis showed resilience with contributions from John Nangle, Adam Bonica, and Watt, cutting into the deficit at several points, but couldn't sustain momentum. WIT continued to capitalize on errors and maintained offensive pressure, finishing off the set 25–18 to take a commanding 2–0 lead.
Looking to stay alive, Regis opened the third set with early energy, but the Leopards quickly responded and took control with a dominant mid-set run. Strong play from Zegowitz and Dubcak, combined with consistent setting, helped WIT build a significant 15–6 lead. Regis attempted to fight back behind Bonica and Watt, adding a few late points, but the deficit proved too large. WIT's depth continued to shine as they closed out the set 25–14, completing the sweep.
