Mcclain Highlights Day One of GNAC Championships with Discus Title as Men’s Track and Field Sits Second Overall
STANDISH, Maine -- The Regis College Pride men's track and field team traveled to Saint Joseph's College of Maine for day one of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships. The day was highlighted by Brock Mcclain capturing the individual GNAC title in the discus, while Justin Thuotte set a new program record in the long jump.
At the conclusion of day one, Regis College Pride sits in second place overall with 47 points, trailing host Saint Joseph's College of Maine, which leads with 74 points. With multiple events still to come, the Pride remain well-positioned heading into day two. Emmanuel College and Lasell University follow in third and fourth with 38 and 21 points, respectively, while Colby-Sawyer College sits in fifth with three points.
Inside the Numbers
- First-year Brock Mcclain led the way for the Pride in the discus, capturing the GNAC title with a personal-best throw of 38.72 meters. He was joined on the podium by teammate Ryan Sweeney, who finished second with a mark of 35.55 meters. Just outside the top three, DJ Marks placed fourth at 31.83 meters, followed by Bryan Abru in sixth with a personal-best throw of 30.44 meters, as both added valuable early points for Regis.
- In the high jump, Justin Thuotte earned a tie for second place alongside a Lasell competitor, clearing 1.80 meters. Brady Elliott also contributed points with a 1.75-meter jump, finishing in a three-way tie for fifth. Thuotte later secured his second silver medal of the day in the long jump with a mark of 6.86 meters.
- Alden Welch-Tyree added to the scoring effort in the javelin, placing fourth with a throw of 38.08 meters, a personal best that moves him into sixth all time in program history and the second furthest throw by a first-year competir to wear the Crimson and Gold.
- In the 100-meter dash preliminaries, Zachary Olayiwole finished 11th overall (fourth in his heat) with a time of 12.01 seconds, while Jalen Jones followed closely behind in 12th place at 12.07 seconds, finishing fifth in the same heat.
The Pride return to action tomorrow for day two of the GNAC Championships, with events set to begin at 12 p.m.
