WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's track and field team placed four student-athletes on the 2023-24 College Sports Communicators Division III Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Academic All-District® Team, as the national organization of content creators announced the honorees Tuesday, June 18.
In order to be eligible for selection to the Academic All-District® Team, student-athletes must have posted at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average, must be a sophomore or higher, and must have finished in the top 50 regionally in at least one event in either cross country, indoor track and field, or outdoor track and field, with the cross country standings dictated by results at the NCAA regional meets and the track and field results guided by the rankings as listed by TFRRS.org at the time of the nomination.
Liam Austin (Boston, Mass.) earns his second Academic All-District® award of 2023-24 after being recognized for his performances on the swimming and diving team. He moved into 30th place regionally in the javelin throw with a personal-best mark of 45.52 meters (149' 4"), good enough for a third place finish at the GNAC Outdoor Championships and All-GNAC honors. He also finished fourth in the pole vault, clearing 2.60 meters (8' 6.25") to score points for the Pride.
Brett Kiesel (Rocky Hill, Conn.) finished in the region top 50 in five different events, highlighted by a 10th place standing in the javelin throw with a mark of 54.74 meters (179' 7") that won the Regis Spring Classic April 8. Earlier in the year, after numerous podium finishes, he finally broke through with a GNAC individual title, winning the pole vault at the GNAC Indoor Championships after clearing 3.55 meters (11' 7.75"). Kiesel was named the Regis Outstanding Male Graduate Student-Athlete of the Year and picks up his second Academic All-District® career award.
Chris Margiatto (Suffield, Conn.) also collects his second career Academic All-District® honor after finishing 23rd in the region in the 400 meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 57.74 seconds to place second at the GNAC Outdoor Championships, earning All-GNAC recognition in the process. At the same meet, he ran the third leg of the 4x800 meter relay that finished second with a school-record overall time of 8:37.11.
DJ Marks (Medford, Mass.) cleared 1.67 meters (5' 5.75") to finish eighth in the high jump at the GNAC Outdoor Championships, moving into a tie for 49th place in the regional rankings to meet the athletic performance requirement. Marks participated in six meets during the indoor season and five meets during the outdoor campaign, posting a personal-best time of 26.91 seconds in the 200 meter dash at the GNAC Outdoor Championships.
Kiesel and Margiatto have been selected as finalists for Academic All-America® consideration, with the national ballot to be voted on by members of College Sports Communicators. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced July 10, 2024.
