The Regis College men's tennis team captured its fourth-straight season of 10 wins and stayed perfect in New England Collegiate Conference play with a 9-0 sweep of Mitchell College on Thursday afternoon in New London, Conn.
NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Regis College men's tennis team captured its fourth-straight season of at least 10 wins and stayed perfect in New England Collegiate Conference play with a 9-0 sweep of Mitchell College on Thursday afternoon in New London, Conn.
The Pride improves to 10-6 on the year and 3-0 in the NECC, while Mitchell falls to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in league matches.
Regis jumped out to an early 3-0 lead following doubles play as Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) battled for an 8-4 win at the No. 1 spot. Nathan Cohen (Randolph, Mass.) and Matt Quattrociocchi (Germantown, Md.) combined for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles, and Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) and Jarid Polley (North Reading, Mass.) swept their opponents 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.
Singles play was much of the same with Beluch winning at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-0. Harrow added a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles, while Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.) and Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) swept their respective No. 5 and No. 6 singles matchups, 6-0, 6-0. Nathan Cohen also added a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.
Quattrociocchi dropped the opening set of his No. 3 singles matchup, 5-7, but rebounded for a 7-5 win in the second set. The freshman prevailed in the tie-break, 12-10, to complete the sweep for Regis.
The Crimson and Gold return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Newbury College in an NECC match scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on the campus of Salem State University.
