WESTON, Mass. - On behalf of the Regis College men's tennis team, Coach Ciarleglio is extremely pleased to welcome three new freshmen players for next fall in Scott Barrett (Burlington, Mass.), Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.), and Matt Quattrociocchi (Germantown, Md.). All three are accomplished players that began their love of tennis at an early age.
With Barrett, Harrow and Quattrociocchi joining a solid core of returners from last year's successful squad, Coach C. expects the Regis men's tennis team to reach new heights in 2014-2015.
Scott Barrett began playing tennis when he was three years old at Rahanis Park in Burlington, Mass. and has participated in the youth tennis program there every summer since. Tennis pro, Rob Newton, who is also the Burlington High School boys coach, has been running a very successful summer park and recreation tennis program there for a long time. Barrett started volunteering in the program a few years ago and he now is on Newton's staff of tennis instructors. A three-year varsity player on the Burlington High School tennis team, Scott played doubles his sophomore year and has played singles both junior and senior years. Barrett has also been a tri-captain of his team this last year.
He is a two-time Middlesex League All-Star and a two-time award winner of the Dick Verzone 10th Player Award. Scott has regularly played competitive USTA tournaments the past four years. His favorite professional tennis player is Novak Djokovic. Outside of tennis, Barrett enjoys playing basketball with his friends, watching sports and listening to music. Rap is his favorite music. Why Regis College? "I can get a great education and play the game that I love." Barrett will be majoring in Business Management.
Chris Harrow started playing tennis when he was eight years old and started competing in the North Shore League when he was 13 years old. Harrow trained at the Northeast Tennis Center in Middleton, Mass. and Bass River Tennis Club in Beverly, Mass. Chris played varsity tennis at North Reading High School for all four years, playing 1st singles in three out of the four years. He's been a team captain for both junior and senior years. Harrow has also been a dedicated competitor in the USTA Boys 16's and 18's junior tournament circuit, with a consistent ranking in the low 100's. He also plays on the Northeast Tennis Center's USTA Junior Team Tennis team.
Chris chose Regis College for several important reasons! "I decided on Regis because it feels like a very close community. I like that it is a smaller school but not too small. I also like that it is somewhat close to where I live. The men's tennis team also seems very close and I'm very much looking forward to be a part of it. Overall, when I first walked on campus, it felt like home and I am excited to be going to Regis next fall and for the opportunity to continue playing competitive tennis."
When not playing tennis, Harrow is usually watching tennis. He also enjoys going to the movies, playing golf, playing video games and the beach. "I don't really have a favorite type of music as I like a little bit of everything." Harrow will be studying secondary education with the goal of teaching history. "I think that having such good teachers during my elementary and high school education has made me want to become a teacher."
After playing baseball, hockey and soccer in middle school, Matt Quattrociocchi decided to give tennis a look at the age of 14. He improved quickly and made the Northwest High School varsity team as a freshman playing 3rd doubles. He really enjoyed tennis especially the competitive aspects, "it is a very fun way to challenge myself physically and mentally while working on my game and tactics and strategy to improve my match play." Matt's goal was to move up on his high school line up so he increased his schedule of clinics and lessons at the Quince Orchard Swim and Tennis Club.
His family has spent summers in Wareham, Mass. from his freshman year on and Matt has played at the Lakeville Athletic Club every summer along with playing USTA tournaments. As a result of his year-round commitment, Quattrociocchi moved up to 4th Singles Sophomore year, 3rd Singles Junior year, and 2nd Singles Senior year. Matt was also a team Captain his senior year.
"I selected Regis because I love the location, atmosphere and the successful men's tennis program with other players that I've enjoyed getting to know. I'm planning to major in business management because I would like to pursue potential careers in the fields of marketing and communications." Besides tennis Matt enjoys spending time with friends, going to the movies, target shooting and autocross driving.
The Regis men's tennis team kicks off the 2014-15 season on Friday, September 12 at Franklin Pierce University.
