WESTON, Mass. – Four different players won in both singles and doubles play as Regis College bested visiting Becker College, 8-1 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's tennis action on Wednesday afternoon. The Pride improve to 4-8, 4-0 NECC after winning their fourth straight match, while the Hawks drop to 1-1, 1-1 NECC on the season.
The Pride were able to jump out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles play, highlighted by an 8-2 win by Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) over Branden Parkhouse (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) and Troy Scott (Lambs Grove, Iowa) at the No. 1 position.
The Pride's Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) and Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) picked up an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles, and the senior duo of Mouhamed Diallo (Boston, Mass.) and Sophorn Nop (Lowell, Mass.) won, 8-0 at the No. 3 position.
In addition to their victories in doubles play, Beluch, White, Nop, and Nace each registered wins in singles play. Beluch defeated Scott at No. 1 singles via set scores of 6-0, 6-2. White and Nop both won matches, 6-1 and 6-1 to help the Pride capture wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively. White defeated David Graham (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.), while Nop got past Devon Dubuque (Cranston, R.I.).
The lone win on the day for the Hawks came from Parkhouse, who beat Parrish in three sets (4-6, 6-2, 10-3) at the No. 2 position. Matt Smolko (Pelham, N.H.) and Nace closed out the win for Regis at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
The Pride will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to take on NECC foe Wheelock College at 6:00 p.m. The Hawks will also be on the road next, as they will take on Lesley University on Friday, April 5.
