HILTON HEAD, S.C. – In their second match of their spring break trip to Hilton Head, the Regis College men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to Emory & Henry College this afternoon.
Mouhamed Diallo (Boston, Mass.) captured his first singles victory of the season with 6-4, 7-5 set wins over the Wasps' Daniel Ohlman (Ocala, Fla.) at No. 6 singles for the Pride's lone win in singles play. After winning a close first set, Diallo broke his opponent late in the second and served out the match.
Diallo has made large improvements in his mental game and it paid off with today's win as his consistency and determination allowed him to prevail on the court.
Biruk Legesse (Marion, Mass.) made his debut for Regis in today's match after teaming up with Matt Smolko (Pelham, N.H.), and Head Coach John Ciarleglio was pleased with his performance despite the pair's 8-1 loss.
"Biruk played well in his Regis College debut alongside senior Matt Smolko at No. 3 doubles. He showed great potential on the court and competes well," said Ciarleglio.
In other doubles play, Regis' Mike Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) were defeated by Matt Nelson (Galax, Va.) and Adam Henderson (Abingdon, Va.) at No. 1 doubles, 8-1, while Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) and Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) of the Pride fell to James Keighly (Heswall, Mercyside, England) and Webster Gilley (Bristol, Tenn.), 8-2 in No. 2 doubles.
The Pride will be in action again tomorrow afternoon against Penn State - Behrend at 1:00 p.m.
