PRIDE POUNCE ON WILCATS 9-0,FOR SECOND NECC WIN

Freshman Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) won a combined two matches, while dropping just one game to lead the Regis College (MA) men’s tennis team to a 9-0 victory over host Wheelock College this afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference action at the Winsor Courts in Boston, Massachusetts. The Pride improve to 4-5 and 2-0 in league play, while the Wildcats fall to 0-2, 0-1. It was the first-ever match between the two schools.

WESTON, Mass. – Freshman Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) won a combined two matches, while dropping just one game to lead the Regis College (MA) men's tennis team to a 9-0 victory over host Wheelock College this afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference action at the Winsor Courts in Boston, Massachusetts. The Pride improve to 4-5 and 2-0 in league play, while the Wildcats fall to 0-2, 0-1. It was the first-ever match between the two schools.

Beluch teamed with junior Sophorn Nop (Lowell, Mass) to take an 8-1 decision in pro-set format at number one doubles over the Wheelock tandem of senior Bobby Venning (Greenfield, N.H.) and freshman Charles Armstong-Hicks (Windsor, Conn.). Beluch did not drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles over Venning.

Nop won in straight sets at number four singles over Wildcats' freshman Miles Carey-Snow (Brunswick, Maine), 6-1, 6-1. Carey-Snow had teamed with classmate Scott Sobel (Silver Spring, MD), earlier in the day, to take sophomore Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) and sophomore Jeffrie Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) at third doubles, but fell 8-0 to the visitors.

White won in singles play for Regis at number three with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Wheelock sophomore Claire O'Donoghue (East Haven, Conn.), 6-0, 6-0, while Sobel fell to the Pride's Mouhamed Diallo (Boston, Mass.) at fifth singles, 6-0, 6-0.

O'Donoghue teamed with sophomore Moira McCarthy (Conway, N.H.) at number three doubles for the Wildcats in an 8-1 defeat at the hands of Diallo and junior Matthew Smolko (Pelham, N.H.). Sophomore Jonathan Dost (Taunton, Mass.) earned a 6-0, 6-0 decision over McCarthy at sixth singles, before Armstrong-Hicks and Parrish closed out the dual match at second singles. Parrish took the first set, 6-0, for Regis, but Armstrong-Hicks broke his serve in the second set and was within, 5-4, before Parrish closed out the set and match, 6-4.

The Wildcats will be in action again on Thursday, April 5 when they travel to Weston, Massachusetts to take on the Pride again at 4:30 p.m. in NECC action. Regis will play again before that with a trip to New London, Connecticut on April 3 to take on Mitchell College at 3:30 p.m.
