Men's Swim and Dive Slated for Third in Championship Poll
WESTON, Mass. — Voted on by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) coaches, the Regis College men's swimming and diving team has been selected to finish third heading into the GNAC Championship weekend. The Pride totaled 15 points in the poll, trailing Norwich, which earned all five first-place votes and 25 points, and the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), which collected 20 points.
Regis will lean on a strong veteran core in Ryan Kim, Aryaman Nagaraj, and Michael Zammuto as the championship meet approaches.
Kim has been a cornerstone for the Pride throughout the season, leading the team in the breaststroke and individual medley events. He owns the top team times in the 50, 100, and 200 breaststroke, as well as the 100 and 200 IM. Kim has also showcased his versatility in the distance freestyle, posting a team-best time of 5:23.64 in the 500 free.
Nagaraj has emerged as the Pride's top backstroke and sprint freestyle specialist, holding the team's fastest times in the 50, 100, and 200 backstroke, along with the 50 and 100 freestyle.
On the diving boards, four-time GNAC Diver of the Week Michael Zammuto enters the championship meet peaking at the right time. He is coming off a weekend highlighted by two personal bests in the one-meter 11-dive and three-meter six-dive events, performances that place him second all-time in program history. He will be joined by three-time Diver of the Week Josh Dion, who has delivered consistent performances throughout the season.
Kim (10), Nagaraj (10), and Zammuto (7) have combined for 27 All-GNAC finishes during their careers and will help guide first-year swimmers Gavin Olsen and Andrew Martin, both of whom have provided key contributions this season, as they compete in their first Championship weekend.
The Pride will open competition at the GNAC Championships beginning Friday, February 6, at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute pool.
