Werner, Kim Lead Regis Men’s Swimming in Pentathlon Showings
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The Regis College men's swimming and diving team competed in the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) pentathlon on Friday, with multiple Pride swimmers posting career- and personal-best performances.
In the pentathlon format, each swimmer competes in five events: 50 Butterfly, 50 Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke, 50 Freestyle, and the 100 IM. Times from all five events are combined, and the swimmer with the fastest total is declared the winner. Swimmers who are disqualified or do not complete all five events are ineligible for scoring. This is an individual competition, with no team scores awarded. The field in Connecticut contained 31 swimmers across four programs.
Cody Werner (Bettendorf, Iowa) led the Pride with a fifth-place finish overall, posting a total time of 2:51.04. He set career bests in the 50 Backstroke (28.61), 50 Freestyle (24.24), and 100 IM (1:00.57). His 50 Backstroke time ranks 12th all-time in program history. Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.) finished seventh with a total time of 2:53.05, narrowly edging the eighth-place finisher by 0.55 seconds, while setting personal bests in the 50 Butterfly (27.22) and 50 Backstroke (29.43).
