Nick Penta Named GNAC MLAX Goalkeeper of Week
WINTHROP, Mass. – After a week in which he averaged 15.5 saves per match and helped the Pride post its first shutout in 11 years, senior Nick Penta (Andover, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week, announced Monday evening, Mar. 14, by the league office.
Last Monday against Eastern Nazarene, Penta stopped all 12 shots on goal he saw as the Pride defeated the Lions, 15-0, for the program's first shutout since April 6, 2011. Penta made eight saves in the fourth quarter as Eastern Nazarene attempted to break through on the scoreboard in the final 15 minutes of regulation.
Saturday against Salem State, Penta finished with 19 saves, just one off his career-high total of 20 saves established in the season opener at Maine Maritime. He was challenged right away, making seven saves in the first quarter, followed by five saves in both the third and fourth quarters.
Penta is currently tied for second in the GNAC in total saves with 51, third in save percentage at .622, and fourth in goals against average at 10.33 GAA. This is Penta's first career GNAC weekly award.
Regis College (1-2) hosts MCLA Tuesday, March 15, starting at 6 p.m. at Regis Stadium.
