Men's Basketball Opens February With Loss to Emmanuel
WESTON, Mass. -- The Regis men's basketball team was back in action tonight in a crucial Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup, after being decided at the buzzer the Pride wouldn't be able to cone out on top falling 67-65. Tonight's loss drops the Pride's record to 11-10, 2-6 in GNAC play.
Aamyr Sullivan (Middletown, NY) controlled the Pride's offense with 5 assists while adding 9 points of his own. On the defensive side Rob Elliot (Willington, Conn.) kept the glass clean grabbing 5 defensive rebounds.
For the Saints, Mahari Guerrier, Danny Adams and Cameron Snowden combined for 52 of Emmanuel's 67 points.
How it Happened
Tonight's contest would start off relatively quiet as neither team could get into an offensive rhythm. Ned Fitzpatrick (Providence, R.I.) would be a key factor off the bench in the first half for the Pride, scoring a momentum shifting three pointer at the halfway mark. From there, Regis would being to mount a lead built on a great team rebounding effort. at the 6:07 mark Elliot would hit a three pushing the Pride's lead to eight. Despite a Saints effort late the Pride would go into half up 13, 37-24.the
Regis would come out in the second half looking to extend their lead but Emannuel would have other plans. The half would begin back-and-fourth with both teams trading buckets. With just under half to go in the half though the Saints would turn up the heat going on a 11-4 run to pull within one. At the 3:58 mark the Saints would pull ahead on two made Guerrier free throws. The Pride would have opportunities to equalize and take the lead but shots would not fall in their favor. A layup from Guerrier with 20 seconds to go would prove to be the deciding factor, as Regis would fall 67-65.
