Men's Basketball Fall to Norwich in Late Afternoon Matchup
WESTON, Mass-- The men's basketball team was back in action today in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup against the Cadets of Norwich, Although the Pride honored program great and 1,000 point scorer Russell Rau at halftime, he'd prove to be no luck as they fell 55-62. Todays loss brings Regis' record to 11-9, 2-5 in confereence.
Aamyr Sullivan and Jamir Harvey would lead the way for the Pride combining for 24 of the teams 55 points.
Joe Joe DeBrul would prove to be Norwich's key piece, scoring 18 and collecting fie rebounds.
How it Happened
Regis opened the game with early energy, as Jamir Harvey scored the first basket on a layup off an assist from Aamyr Sullivan. Early on in the half after a Regis timeout, the Pride found a spark off the bench. Tyrone Chinn came in and provided a steal and finish. The teams continued to trade baskets, highlighted by Hunter Zancan's strong finishes and Ned Fitzpatrick knocking down a three to give Regis its first multi-point edge at 16–14. Norwich responded behind timely shooting from Ricketts and Joe Joe Dubrul, while Michel Ndayishimiye made his presence felt attacking the rim and creating second-chance opportunities. Despite Norwich briefly reclaiming the lead, Regis closed the half strong with a 35–33 advantage into the break.
Regis came out of the locker room extending its halftime momentum as Jamir Harvey scored twice early in the half to push the Pride lead. Midway through the half, Norwich began to claw back behind perimeter shooting from Joe Joe Dubrul and Charles Nogard, trimming the deficit. Turnovers and second-chance points allowed Norwich to stay within striking distance. The game tightened over the final eight minutes as the teams traded baskets and the lead changed hands several times. Regis briefly pulled even with a three from Elliott but Norwich answered with clutch shooting down the stretch. Dubrul connected on a late three, and Michel Ndayishimiye attacked the rim in the closing seconds to seal the game. Norwich closed the half on a decisive run, pulling away in the final minute to secure a 62–55 victory.
