Men's Basketball Falls to USJ in Weekend Matchup
WEST HARTFORD, Conn -- The Regis men's basketball team was on the road today, Saturday the 17th against conference foe University of St.Joseph's (Conn) (USJ). The Blue Jays jumped out to an early lead and did not look back as they defeated the Pride 78-38. Today's loss drops the Prides' record to 9-7, 0-3 in Great Northeast Athletic Confernece (GNAC) play.
How it Happened
The Pride struggled to find offensive rhythm in the opening half, as Saint Joseph jumped out to an 8–0 run and extended the margin through strong interior play and transition scoring. The Pride briefly found momentum behind Tyrone Chinn's activity on the glass and a jumper from Rob Elliott, but the Blue Jays consistently answered, using offensive rebounds and second-chance points to widen the gap. USJ closed the half on a dominant stretch, taking a 44–14 advantage into halftime.
Regis opened the second half with renewed energy, highlighted by a Gehrig Brynda three-pointer and better ball movement, but Saint Joseph quickly reasserted control. The hosts continued to pressure defensively, forcing turnovers and converting them into points, while Deivone Tanksley Jr. and Lence Altenor led a balanced scoring attack. Despite continued effort from Jamir Harvey, Raymond Johnson, and Chinn, the Pride were unable to cut into the deficit falling to St.Joseph's 78-38.
