Marc Trinidad Voted First Team All-GNAC
WINTHROP, Mass. – Capping off a historic senior season, Marc Trinidad (Bronx, N.Y.) has been voted First Team All-GNAC by the men's basketball coaches of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference as the postseason awards were announced Monday, Feb. 28.
After missing seven of the first eight games of the season due to a hand injury, Trinidad started all 19 games he appeared in for the Pride, averaging 18.2 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game. He set the Regis single-season record for highest scoring average and finished with the third-highest single-season rebounding average in program history.
Trinidad reached double figures in scoring in all but one game this season and notched eight double-doubles during the year. Feb. 23 at Albertus Magnus, in what would turn out to be the final game of his collegiate career, he shot 15-for-23 from the field, including his third career three-pointer, and made all four of his free throw attempts to break the Regis single-game scoring record with 35 points, becoming the sixth player in program history to score at least 1,000 career points.
"Marc's determination and work ethic not only elevated his own play, but made everyone else around him better this year," head coach Nate Hager said. "The most impressive part of his season was the response to breaking his shooting hand in late October. The way he displayed his leadership, along with his toughness and perseverance, makes this award that much more special."
On track to graduate with his bachelor's degree in exercise science, Trinidad is a three-time Academic All-GNAC and two-time NABC Honors Court selection. He becomes the first Regis men's basketball player to be voted First Team All-GNAC since the Pride joined the conference starting in the 2017-18 season.
First-year player Thomas Ahlstrom (San Antonio, Texas) was selected to represent Regis on the GNAC Men's Basketball All-Sportsmanship Team for his contributions to the program both in practice and during competition. Ahlstrom appeared in 22 games, including six starts, averaging 17.3 minutes, 3.4 points, and 4.1 rebounds per game.
GNAC champion University of Saint Joseph received three of the major awards as Jaecee Martin was named Player of the Year, Jalen Samuels earned Defensive Player of the Year recognition, and Glen Miller was voted by his peers as Coach of the Year. Josh Zangerle of Johnson and Wales collected Rookie of the Year honors, and Norwich University received the Team Sportsmanship Award.
Regis College finished the 2021-22 season with a 13-13 overall record, including a 9-9 league mark to end up seventh in the final regular season conference standings.
