DEFENDING CHAMPS SELECTED FOR 2ND PLACE FINISH
The Regis College men’s basketball team has been selected to finish second in the New England Collegiate Conference after a vote conducted by the leagues head coaches was announced Tuesday afternoon. The Pride received two first place votes in the NECC Coaches Poll.
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The Regis College men's basketball team has been selected to finish second in the New England Collegiate Conference after a vote conducted by the leagues head coaches was announced Tuesday afternoon. The Pride received two first place votes in the NECC Coaches Poll.
The Crimson and Gold are coming off a program best 19-9 record under Coach Nate Hager which earned the No. 2 seed in the NECC Tournament. The Pride upset Southern Vermont College 74-72 to capture the 2014-15 NECC title, the first conference championship in program history.
Southern Vermont earned seven first place votes and 78 points to finish on top of the preseason poll. Regis is right behind the Mountaineers with two first place votes and 69 points. Elms is selected to finish third in the conference as they earned 56 points along with Mitchell who's set up for a fourth place finish with 56 points. Daniel Webster rounds out the top five earning 49 points.
Becker was projected to place sixth with Wheelock, Newbury and Lesley earning seventh, eighth and ninth place finishes.
Regis opens the new campaign on Friday night when they host the Wentworth Institute of Technology as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Greater Boston Shootout at 5:00 p.m.
