Lasers Defeat Pride in Crosstown Battle
WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College field hockey team welcomed crosstown rival Lasell University to Regis Stadium for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup, where the visitors earned a 4-0 victory over the Pride, dropping Regis to 3-9 on the season.
How it Happened
In the closing minute of the first quarter, the Lasers broke through with a strong shot from the top of the circle. Allayna Martone (Elkridge, Md.) made the initial kick save, but Lasell stayed on the attack, capitalizing moments later as Brooklyn Northcutt buried a pass from Megan Crabtree to give the visitors a 1-0 lead after one.
The Pride generated a pair of penalty corner opportunities in the second quarter while Martone turned away six shots to keep Regis within reach. Allie Colburn (Rockland, Maine) added a defensive save to help preserve the margin, but a goal from Jacquelyn Scopa in the final seconds extended Lasell's advantage to 2-0 heading into halftime.
Four minutes into the third, Scopa struck again to make it 3-0. Ava Costello (North Easton, Mass.) nearly got the Pride on the board in the closing seconds of the frame, but the Lasers' goalkeeper came up with a clutch kick save to maintain the score heading into the final stanza.
In the 52nd minute, Alice Rourke added her first goal of the season to push the Lasers' lead to four. Regis earned a trio of late penalty corners, but the Lasell defense held strong, with a final save by the keeper preserving the 4-0 victory.
