Pride Fall 3-1 at Simmons in GNAC Play
BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Regis College field hockey team traveled to Daly Field on Tuesday evening for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup with Simmons University, where the Sharks came away with a 3-1 win over the Pride. The loss moves Regis to 1-4 in league play.
Goalkeeper Allayna Martone (Elkridge, Md.) continues to be a force in net as she anchored the Pride defense with 16 saves. Offensively, Gabrielle Tolman (Rockland, Maine) found the back of the cage for Regis, with Anna Miele-DeFelice (Framingham, Mass.) credited with the assist.
Simmons was led by Penelope Long, who netted two goals, while Nora Desrosiers added another. In goal, Haley Brightmade one save to secure the victory for the Sharks.
How it Happened
The Sharks applied heavy pressure early, earning six penalty corners and firing three shots before Long finally broke through in the 11th minute to give Simmons a 1-0 lead after the first quarter.
Ten minutes later, Long struck again, this time finishing a feed from Avery Allaire to double the Sharks' advantage. Martone stood tall in net with a pair of key stops late in the frame to keep the Pride within striking distance, heading into halftime down 2-0.
Five minutes into the third, Allie Colburn (Rockland, Maine) tested Simmons goalkeeper Haley Bright, but Bright was equal to the chance. The Sharks extended their lead in the 43rd minute before Regis answered back, as Tolman converted off a setup from Miele-DeFelice to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Martone continued to shine in the cage, adding four more saves in the fourth quarter, but Simmons held strong to secure the 3-1 victory.
