Pride Athletics Celebrates National Athletic Training Month
WESTON, Mass. – As part of National Athletic Training Month, the Regis College athletics department is proud to recognize the immense contributions from the Pride athletic training staff: Assistant Athletic Director Ron LeClair, Emily DeAngelis, and Alexis Chilton.
LeClair, DeAngelis, and Chilton work together to support Regis student-athletes' physical, emotional, and social well-being primarily through the prevention and treatment of athletic injuries. The Regis athletic training staff possesses knowledge in injury prevention, injury recognition, evaluation and assessment, immediate care, and the treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of athletic injuries.
As head of the Regis athletic training office, LeClair established protocols and guidelines to ensure the health and well-being of Pride student-athletes, coaches, and athletic staff as the athletic department returned to full competition in the midst of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. Through collaboration with the Regis College Health Services Department as well as following the guidance of organizations such as the NCAA Sport Science Institute and the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, LeClair helped put together the plan that allowed Regis student-athletes to participate in athletic competition safely.
LeClair, now in his fifth year at Regis, previously worked at Brandeis University, where he was the Assistant Athletic Trainer/Strength & Conditioning Coach, assisting in the development and coordination of the strength and conditioning programs for the department's 17 sports. He was also instrumental in the development of the department policies and procedures manual, including updating concussion protocols and reviewing emergency action plans. LeClair, a graduate of Northeastern University and the University of Miami, also spent time with the New England Patriots during their Super Bowl-winning seasons of 2001-02 and 2003-04.
DeAngelis joined the Regis College athletic training staff last August after spending five years as a member of the athletic training staff at Bridgewater State University, first as a graduate assistant before moving into a full-time athletic training position in December 2017. She provided athletic training services for the football, men's wrestling, women's softball, swimming & diving, and tennis teams. She also designed strength and conditioning programs for the equestrian, softball, tennis, cross country, women's lacrosse, soccer, swimming & diving, and volleyball teams.
DeAngelis received her Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training from Lasell in 2016 and her Master of Science degree in physical education, concentrating in strength and conditioning, from Bridgewater State in 2017. At Lasell, she was a four-year letterwinner in softball, serving as team captain in her senior year.
Chilton also came to Regis at the start of the 2021-22 academic year after completing her graduate fellowship in athletic training from Merrimack College, receiving her Master of Science degree in exercise and sports science. At Merrimack, she coordinated care for the men's soccer and women's lacrosse teams. Chilton was also involved in the collaboration and implementation of COVID-19 protocol for athletes during treatment, practice, and in the athletic complex.
Chilton received her Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training from the University of Delaware in 2020. During her undergraduate career, she worked with several Delaware athletic squads, including cross country/track & field, men's lacrosse, women's volleyball, and women's soccer. She also traveled to SRH Hochschule in Heidelberg, Germany, for a study abroad class entitled International Perspective of Sports Medicine.
"Essential to Health Care" is the theme of this year's National Athletic Training Month, which is sponsored by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), a not-for-profit organization based in Dallas, Texas. "The AT's unique skill set and expertise make them a vital component of the health care team. Through individualized health care, ATs help active populations everywhere thrive in work, life, and sport."
Thanks and gratitude to Ron, Emily, and Alexis for their exemplary work and professionalism as they provide medical care to the Regis Pride student-athletes.
